Wallace Excellence Awards grantees to gather at SFMOMA

Wallace Excellence Awards provide support to exemplary arts organizations in selected cities to identify, develop and share effective ideas and practices to reach more people.  Eleven arts organizations with budgets over $1 million received these four-year grants.  Findings from their projects are reported here.

Our Wallace grantee cohort will kick off the final year of the initiative with an event hosted by the SFMOMA.  Watch this space for insights, surprises, and perhaps some unusual photos from this gathering.

The event will begin with a guided tour of How Wine Became Modern with SFMOMA curators Henry Urback and Joseph Becker. A reception and presentation by SFMOMA staff about how market research and cross-departmental collaboration have enhanced their audience engagement strategies will follow.

The afternoon will wind up with a group discussion facilitated by Moy Eng around key findings from our Wallace funded projects and next steps to sustain the work beyond the end of the grant period. In addition, Ariana Hellerman from the Wallace Foundation will be joining us as a special guest.

ABOUT THE INITIATIVE

In 2008, The San Francisco Foundation (TSFF) and Grants for the Arts/San Francisco Hotel Tax Fund (GFTA) embarked on a four-year funding partnership to encourage systemic and sustainable structural change in the relationships of Bay Area arts organizations to their audiences, supported by the Wallace Foundation. Community offerings during the grant period (2008-2011) included seminars, workshops, large public convenings, implementation grants, development of a regional shared mailing list, and expansion of the SFArts.org website.
